BLOSSOM MARKET
A Blossom Block Expereience at the Navy Yard
ALL PROJECTS
PROBLEM
The Navy Yard BID was participating in the National Cherry Blossom Festival’s Blossom Block program and needed to activate an empty, underutilized alleyway within their district. While the space had potential, it lacked identity, foot traffic, and a compelling reason for visitors to stop, engage, or explore beyond the main festival attractions.
The challenge was to transform this overlooked area into a destination—one that could capture the energy of peak bloom, attract festival-goers, and create a memorable experience that aligned with the vibrancy of the Cherry Blossom Festival.

SOLUTION
The Assembly DC reimagined the space as Blossom Market: A Blossom Block Experience, intentionally preserving the alley's raw, urban feel while transforming it into a vibrant, flower-market-inspired destination.
Centered around the idea that flowers can grow anywhere, TADC leaned into contrast, blending industrial elements with soft, organic beauty. Tires were repurposed as bold art installations, symbolizing resilience and reinvention. The centerpiece of the activation was a large-scale tire wall with flowers overflowing from every layer, turning an everyday material into a striking visual statement.
To reflect the spirit of the Navy Yard community, TADC incorporated playful, hyper-local details throughout the space, including dogs featured in large flower installations. Each dog was styled with a Navy Yard dog tie and blossom boppers, celebrating the neighborhood’s strong dog-friendly culture in a way that felt personal, unexpected, and memorable.
Oversized floral installations were placed throughout the alley, creating moments of discovery and a sense of scale that encouraged guests to explore, engage, and capture content.
As the sun set, the alley transformed into The Pink Glow, a fully illuminated environment bathed in bold pink light that shifted the space's energy from daytime market to nighttime experience, drawing guests in and extending activation hours.
TADC also expanded the experience beyond the alley by activating the adjacent patio and introducing a pop-up restaurant in collaboration with a local chef, blending food, culture, and community into the overall design.
Through immersive storytelling, layered design, and intentional community integration, TADC transformed an underutilized alleyway into a multi-sensory, high-impact destination. Blossom Market not only increased foot traffic but also created a space that felt alive, rooted in its surroundings, and built for connection, discovery, and shareable moments during peak bloom.
